New York Chapter Event at Jadis Wine Bar
Thank you to all the alumni and guests who turned out for our second annual event for the New York chapter of the Emily Carr University Alumni Association! We were thrilled to be able to meet with all of you in person, and to thank you for all your support.
Our event was held on April 16, at Jadis Wine Bar, located in the heart of the Lower East Side. With its brick walls and antique furnishing, Jadis had a warm and intimate atmosphere, and a definite ‘old New York’ feel.
New York Chapter Leader Suzy Taekyung Kim (’03) and her husband Dr. Steve Kang organized this event, and invited a number of guests from their professional networks. As with our events in Toronto and San Francisco, our primary goal is always to connect and reconnect with Emily Carr graduates living and working in the city. However, we also intend for these events to provide opportunities to build and strengthen connections within the creative community. Our visit to New York included meetings with alumni offices at local universities, to begin work on building reciprocal programming designed to benefit graduates moving between Vancouver and New York. Although these plans are still in the earliest stages of development, we see the potential for some very exciting regional programming and support for ECU alumni in New York, and we were pleased to share these plans with our alumni at this event.
Broek Bosma, AVP of External Relations at Emily Carr, also presented a brief overview of the Great Northern Way campus design plans and the progression of that project. For many attendees, this was the first time they had learned the details of the project, and it was a unique opportunity for alumni to ask specific questions about the plans, the timeline for construction, and the ways in which they could personally be a part of the new campus project. Broek also took time to thank Suzy and Steve for their enthusiasm and support, and thanked all the guests for the work they have done to keep the New York chapter flourishing.
Our next event in New York is being planned for October 2015. If you would like to be a part of the Emily Carr community in the New York region, there are several ways to stay connected:
And, of course, you are always welcome to contact our office directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to hearing from you, and to visiting New York again in the very near future!
