$5,000 CASH AWARD
The IDEA Art Award allows for the purchase of an artwork by an emerging artist that will be displayed within the Vancouver General Hospital or UBC Hospital, and become part of its permanent collection of works by prominent artists including Karin Bubaš, Chad Durnford, Fred Herzog, Jack Shadbolt, Andy Warhol, Stephen Waddell, Lisa Birk, Jeff Hallbauer and many others.
The 2018 IDEA Art Award will help to transform and humanize the Surgical Day Care Waiting Room in the Koerner Pavilion at UBC Hospital.
The IDEA Art Award offers emerging artists the opportunity to have their art work in a prestigious collection while also contributing to the transformation of a vitally important site. The selected artwork will be placed on a feature wall in the waiting room adjacent to the reception desk. Artwork will be installed above a protective railing, allowing for a horizontal work or a series of smaller works. The artwork for this space should be calming and uplifting and provide a positive distraction and inspire. To this end, images that are overly challenging, confusing or disturbing will not be considered for the IDEA Art Award. In keeping with the display of public art, the work should not be fragile or include glass.
