Arts in Society Conference: Invitation to Contribute

arts in society

As you may already know, Emily Carr, in partnership with the Common Ground Research Networks, will be hosting the 13th International Conference on the Arts in Society from 27 – 29 June 2018.

This annual conference invites academics, activists, and artists from around the world to gather each summer and address the state of the art in arts education, art theory and history, new media and arts technology, and social, political, and community agendas in the arts. The Conference hosts presentations and discussions around four different themes: Arts Education; Arts Theory and History; New Media, Technology and the Arts; and Social, Political and Community Agendas in the Arts. Additionally, the conference will feature a special focus for this year’s conference:  How Art Makes Things Happen: Situating Social Practice in Research, Practice, and Action.

In light of this year’s special topic, conference presenters are invited to deliver their presentations through a range of engaging discursive and experimental activities. These opportunities include but are not limited to: performances; screenings; perambulating dialogical spaces and other dialogical activities; discursive forms of hospitality and sustenance; agonistic exchanges; off-site and time-insensitive forms of sharing and archiving; and public tracings and mappings of key questions and concerns.

Please note that when submitting your proposal, if you wish to propose a different presentation format than the 20-minute paper presentation, please select “Alternative Presentation Proposal” in the session type section of the Application form and add a detailed description of your desired format of presentation.

The deadline to submit proposals to contribute to the conference is on Tuesday, March 27.

We are encouraging anyone interested in the conference to also keep an eye out for upcoming calls for volunteers and other opportunities to participate in this international event.

We very much hope that you will join us for the conference at the end of June!
